Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the first example of the scarce Russian Blood Chit we have offered! Russian blood chits were issued to air crews when their aircraft flew over Soviet-controlled airspace. The rayon blood chit has the American flag printed on both sides with a request in Russian to communicate with the American Military Mission in Moscow. These were issued in plastic envelopes with an attached twill cord, both of which are fully retained on this example.
This set also includes a small page with translations as well as the Calling Card of Lieutenant Edward Dalton Ebbeson, a Bombardier and Navigator with the 603rd Bombardment Squadron, 398th Bombardment Group. His exploits are well-documented online.
A blood chit is a notice carried by military personnel and addressed to any civilians who may come across an armed-services member – such as a shot-down pilot – in difficulties. As well as identifying the force to which the bearer belongs as friendly, the notice displays a message requesting that the service member be rendered every assistance.
This is truly a wonderful example of an original blood chit which helped to identify the downed pilots overseas so that they could be helped. This is the first Russian example we have offered, and the name makes for a great research project! Comes ready to display!
