Original U.S. WWII USAAF British Made B-2 Style Winter Flying Cap

Item Description

Original Item: One Only: During WWII, the US Army Air Force utilized two standardized flying caps for their pilots and air crew, the B-1 summer flying cap and the B-2 winter flying cap. The USAAF B-2 winter flying cap proved to be very popular in WW2 with American airmen and can be seen on many original USAAF pictures of aircrew. It continues to be a popular style of cap worn to this day.

Officially called the "Cap, Flying, Winter, Type B-2" it was issued and standardized in April 1939. They where issued to U.S.A.A.F. aircrew including bomber crews. During wartime however, getting new caps from the U.S. was problematic, so many British companies started making these "private purchase" caps to fill the gap in the supply chain.

This example is made of high quality brown leather, and has fur-lined ear flaps which are usually kept in the up position. There is a chin strap on the top, which was not present in the U.S. Design. The inside is lined with yellow fabric, and there was once a manufacturer label inside, though it unfortunately unraveled over time. It seems to be around a US size 7, or 56cm European.
