Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely example of a US Naval Vessel used mountable No 5 Compass by C.G. Conn. LTD. C. G. Conn Ltd., sometimes called Conn Instruments or commonly just Conn, is a former American manufacturer of musical instruments incorporated in 1915. It bought the production facilities owned by Charles Gerard Conn, a major figure in early manufacture of brasswinds and saxophones in the USA. Its early business was based primarily on brass instruments, which were manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana. From mid-1942 to 1945, C. G. Conn ceased all production of musical instruments for civilian use to manufacture flat & mounted compasses, altimeters, gyro-horizon indicators, and other military instrumentation. A special application of C. G. Conn's "Coprion" process—creating seamless brass bells by depositing copper on a mandrel—was to manufacture silver bearing inserts for the Wright Cyclone airplane engines.
The compass is in good condition and still retains much of the original gray paint. It does appear to be functional but we cannot guarantee that it will in fact function as intended. The original data plate is still present and the top lid is still able to be removed. There are adjustment knobs present and they still turn. With the cover on it measures about 5 1/2"H x 4 3/4".
