Original Items: Only One Lot of 2 Available. This is a fantastic pair of WWII era Aviator wings as worn by the Aerial Gunners and Navigators aboard the various types of aircraft during and after the war. Both are pinback and marked STERLING.
The wings include:
- US Army Air Forces Aerial Gunner “Wings”: The winged bullet on this badge represents the training and hazardous duty of aerial gunners who served on bomber aircraft such as the B-17 and B-29. It was authorized for wear from WWII until 1953 when it was replaced by the aircrew member badge. This set has the nicest patina we’ve seen, with fantastic shadowing and wear. Marked with STERLING on the reverse. The pin arm and locking catch work well. This style is attributed to Orber.
- US Army Air Forces Navigator Wings field-made by attaching Navigator globe onto Observer wings. Looking at the back, the horizontal lines that denote observer wings can still be seen. This is a fantastic field-altered set and was likely done when an observer finished training as a navigator. Marked STERLING on the back. The pin arm and locking catch work well.
A great lot, ready for display.
