Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. While the United States was not directly attacked during WWII, the possibility was always there, so home front industries began producing supplies in case it became a reality. Blackout curtains were widely used in London during "The Blitz", as removing lights helped reduce the ability of Luftwaffe bombers to find their targets. With the curtains, people could still keep the lights / candles on but avoid being spotted.
This is an original WWII example, manufactured by Glida Corporation of America, which at the time was headquartered in the Empire State Bldg., New York. It has not been opened, though it has suffered wear from age and storage, which has torn the ends and some of the label around the center. This still reads:
GLIDA
BLACKOUT CURTAIN
Prevents Light from Escaping Thru Window
Shadowproof - Windproof - Waterproof
The size is 40"W by 72"L, and it is in very nice condition. A great piece of U.S. WWII Home Front memorabilia!
