Original Items. Only One Pair Available. This is a desirable pair of original Second World War U.S. Army Airborne items consisting of a "UNITED STATES PARATROOPS" pocket patch and an Evans fuel lighter fitted with a period-attached set of Parachutist Wings.

The embroidered pocket patch measures approximately 3¾ inches in diameter and features the classic "UNITED STATES PARATROOPS" design on a blue infantry background. Oversized pocket patches such as this were popular unofficial insignia worn on field jackets and other garments by members of airborne units during the war. The patch remains in very good condition overall, with only a few small moth nips, as shown.

The included Evans fuel lighter retains a period-attached set of sterling Parachutist Wings mounted to its front. The base is marked on the retaining screws with the patent information together with EVANS FUEL, identifying the American manufacturer. The lighter no longer produces a spark and will likely require servicing before it can be returned to working order.

The U.S. Army's airborne forces were established during the Second World War as an elite arm trained to conduct parachute assaults behind enemy lines. Following their first combat operations in North Africa in 1942, American paratroopers earned an enduring reputation for toughness and effectiveness during campaigns in Sicily, Italy, Normandy, Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and the final advance into Germany.
