Original U.S. WWII United States Army Major General's Wool Command Flag - 23" x 34"

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. In the U.S. military, a "flag officer", is any officer of high enough rank to fly a flag from the location of their command. In the U.S. Army, this applies to Officers of the Brigadier General (1 Star) rank and higher. Flags such as these were often attached to the outside of tents or other locations outside, while a more ornate fringed version would be used inside.

This flag has two stars, for a Major General rank officer, and measures 22" x 34". Most likely it is a 2ft by 3ft flag that has shrunken slightly over the many years since it was made. It is made of a single piece of cloth with stars sewn on, and has a folded over header with leather tabs at either end to mount it. The flag does not have any maker markings that we can see.

Condition is very good considering the age. The colors are still bright, and the flag does not show much wear from service at all.  There is however some fading and staining, as well as a few small moth nips, very common on wool flags of this age. The leather attachment tabs are still supple, and there are no major issues with the fabric.

A very nice example, ready to display!
