Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice unissued WWII U.S. Army M4 Carbine bayonet fighting knife, with an original M8A1 scabbard in the original box, with the original greasy paper wrapped around the blade and part of the scabbard. Nicely marked U.S. M4 / UTICA on the blade side of hand guard for the Utica Cutlery Co., next to the U.S. Ordnance "Flaming Bomb". The blade is in great condition, and was not used during the war, spending its life in this box. The crossguard, handle, and pommel are all tight to the blade.

The bayonet still has the original WWII issue leather washer grip, with a bit of discoloration towards the pommel. These have not been changed out, and the leather in the grip shows only light wear, and just a bit of rounding. The pommel is held on by the correct peened over tang, which with the flaming bomb proves this is definitely a WWII example, and not a later reissue. There is a heavy amount of grease still on the bayonet.

It comes in a nice WWII issue OD green thermoplastic impregnated cotton fabric scabbard which is made by B.M. CO. as is marked. The scabbard is also offered in very good unissued condition. The throat shows light wear to the finish, as shown. The canvas is in very good condition, and the snap still functions. The metal fittings have some minor oxidation. The OD Green #7 color and lack of a bottom reinforcement indicates late WWII manufacture. The scabbard was manufactured by Beckwith Mfg Co., a division of Victory Plastics.

The box itself measures 13½ x 3 x 1¾” and is labeled on the top:
