Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original U.S. WWII U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman medical shoulder bag, clearly stenciled U.S.N. and retaining a now-faint red cross medical marking on the front flap. Measuring approximately 11 x 8 x 4 inches, the bag was designed to carry medical supplies for use by Navy medical personnel and remains substantially complete with its original shoulder strap, metal strap tips, clasps, and working snaps. The bag is now empty.
There are no contents in the bag, and the interior shows very heavy staining from period use. The snaps still work well and the strap is in good shape.
Combat medics are among the most desirable of all WWII U.S. army items due to their selfless heroic service and scarcity due to the high number of casualties. This bag is unique and stunning in what this soldier experienced both on the field of combat and in the prison camps they saw towards the close of World War Two.
The combination of the U.S.N. stencil, surviving red cross medical marking, original shoulder strap and metal fittings, working snaps, approximately 11 x 8 x 4-inch dimensions, and heavily stained service-used interior makes this a strong example of U.S. Navy Hospital Corps equipment from WWII. Although no contents or individual provenance remain with the bag, it represents the essential medical equipment carried by Navy personnel responsible for treating sick and wounded sailors and Marines during the war.
