Original U.S. WWII U.S. Marine Corps Mk. 19 6x30 Binoculars with Case by Spencer Lens Company - Unissued

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent, unissud condition pair of WWII U.S.M.C 6x30 Mk. 19 binoculars that are nearly identical to the U.S Navy Mark 29, These were manufactured by the Spencer Lens Company in Bufalo, New York. Spencer Lens Company was founded by Herbert R. Spencer (1849-1900) in 1895. The company was the continuation of the firm established in the 1840s by his father, Charles A. Spencer (1813-1881), who is considered one of the the first American microscope makers.

In 1935, it was bought by the American Optical Company, and became a subsidiary. For several years after the acquisition, the Spencer Lens Company continued operation under its own name before becoming known as the Instrument Division of American Optical Company in 1945.

When the mission was to observe movement across a wide expanse of air and water then a binocular with a much wider field of view was justified. Several wide angle binocular models were commissioned specifically for the Marine Crops whose vital work included spotting enemy vessels, planes, as well as other objects; these bear the designation U.S.M.C as found on this example.

These are marked on the right side of the rear by the eyepiece with the maker:

MARK 19 N0. 1149
U.S.M.C.
INSP. E.K.
SPENCER
BUFFALO
U.S.A.

The left rear plate is marked:

6 x 30

The optics are clear and crisp, all aspects of the binoculars function, and they are in overall excellent condition. The leather leather neck strap is supple and strong without defect. The black leather case is in excellent condition with original leather carry strap.

Overall a fantastic Marine Corps WW2 6x30 binocular set!
