Original U.S. WWII U.S. Captured Japanese Cracked Barometer in Case Presented to Captain of the USS Minnesota by 3rd Marine Regiment with Provenance Note

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an interesting captured item with a great bit of provenance, a Japanese barometer with the glass shattered, possibly battle-damaged, presented by 1st Lieutenant W.L. Kay, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, to the Captain of the USS Minnesota in appreciation of the naval gunfire support given to them.
The barometer has two notes with it, both of which are heavily eaten away at, possibly by bookworms. It was taken from a dead Japanese soldier near the enemy coast defense battery, close to Adelup, Guam, by the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. The note also includes translations of the stamp on the face of the barometer, identifying it as an Atmospheric Pressure Calculator, or Field Barometer.
The barometer’s glass is heavily cracked so care should be taken when handling it. It retains its original string and carrying case which has its original strap. The barometer is roughly 3” in diameter.
