Original U.S. WWII Trench Art Stamped Ashtray With Senior Pilot Wings & Wood Base Pen Stand With Aerial Gunner Wings - 2 Items

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 2 Items Available. Trench art is any decorative item made by soldiers, prisoners of war, or civilians where the manufacture is directly linked to armed conflict or its consequences. It offers an insight not only to their feelings and emotions about the war, but also their surroundings and the materials they had available to them.

Not limited to the World Wars, the history of trench art spans conflicts from the Napoleonic Wars to the present day. Although the practice flourished during World War I, the term 'trench art' is also used to describe souvenirs manufactured by service personnel during World War II. Some items manufactured by soldiers, prisoners of war or civilians during earlier conflicts have been retrospectively described as trench art. Although one of these items is technically not “trenchart” because of it being a commercially produced item, it still falls under the same category.

The Items Included set are as follows:
Brass Stamped Ashtray: The ashtray is a lovely example of just how resourceful people can be during times of war. The brash ashtray appears to have been die struck with a sheet of thin brass, more than likely from a larger naval shell. The center of the bowl features a lovely, very detailed relief of a US Navy senior pilot's wings. The ashtray measures 5” x 5” and is in lovely condition.

Post War Ballpoint Pen Stand: This was more than likely made by the Veteran himself as a commemorative piece and reminder as it sat on his desk. The stand features two swivel stands, each with a ballpoint pen resting in them. The bomber gunner wings are war time issue and appear to be sterling and in lovely condition. The base of the stand measures 12” x 3”.

These are both wonderful items that come more than ready for display!
