Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is really one of the best trench art ashtrays we have ever come across. Purportedly coming from an 8th Air Force Base in England, this gorgeous piece is made from a practice bomb and several different types of Cartridges, which all have 1942-1943 dates. The best part of the ashtray is that tilting the top cartridge will dump the ash into a reservoir in the interior of the bomb, which can likely be emptied by unscrewing the bottom plate. What a unique piece!

The ashtray measures roughly 9 x 9 x 26”, and is painted with a lovely yellow & green camouflage pattern. It appears that there were once two slots on top to hold cigarettes, but one has broken off, so there is only one left. We are unsure of the exact model of practice bomb this was made from, but in our research we have found several similar examples, so it is likely a British bomb. There are four large cartridges used as the base, with four more on the slants of the fins, two in the side for a carrying handle, two small pistol cartridges used on the hinges of the top, and one large cartridge on top for dumping ash into the reservoir.

This is a truly phenomenal piece that will look great in any WWII Collection or for use as an everyday ashtray. Comes ready for further research and display!
