  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a theater made M1905/1942 M1 Garand bayonet with an M8 scabbard! In 1943, the U.S. Army made the decision to shorten the M1905 bayonet's blade to 10 inches (25.4 cm) and as many of the M1905 and M1942 bayonets were recalled, their blades were cut down to size, and were reissued. These shortened M1905 bayonets were re-designated as M1905E1. The shortening of this blade continued, the soldier who was equipped with this bayonet wanted to be able to use this weapon as a regular fighting knife and shortened the blade, yet again, but now to 6 1/2 inches in length!

The blade ricasso has no markings, likely having been scrubbed. The blade is in great shape with a nice edge, and was reshaped when the blade was repurposed. The blade shows some use in the field. The grip scales are also in very nice condition and a good amount of the original factory ribbed texture remains.

The M8 scabbard was taken from an M3 fighting knife, and is marked for B.M. CO. on th throat with the updated M8A1 canvas belt loop and securing strap. It shows heavy oxidation and matches the bayonet well.

This is a unique fighting knife in desirable condition. Comes ready for display!
