Original U.S. WWII Theater Made M1 Garand Bayonet Fighting Knife With M7 Scabbard by PAL - Dated 1942

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a theater made M1905/1942 M1 Garand bayonet with scabbard! In 1943, the U.S. Army made the decision to shorten the M1905 bayonet's blade to 10 inches (25.4 cm) and as many of the M1905 and M1942 bayonets were recalled, their blades were cut down to size, and were reissued. These shortened M1905 bayonets were re-designated as M1905E1. The shortening of this blade continued, the soldier who was equipped with this bayonet wanted to be able to use this weapon as a regular fighting knife and shortened the blade, yet again, but now to 6 inches in length!
The blade ricasso is marked with maker PAL (Pal Blade and Tool) above U.S. around the Ordnance flaming bomb. Below this is the manufacture date of 1942, which is not partly covered by the cross guard like you usually see them, as they were marked prior to assembly and hardening. The blade is in great shape with a nice edge, and was reshaped when the blade was repurposed. The blade shows some use, and has a few small edge nicks. The grip scales are also in very nice condition and a good amount of the original factory ribbed texture remains.
The scabbard was definitely cut down to match the length of the blade, but it was done so well that it appears to have been manufactured at 7 ¼”. It’s a snug fit, but still functions and does not lock.
This is a unique fighting knife in desirable condition. Comes more than ready for display!
