Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a very interesting handmade fighting knife with a Bowie-style blade and Italian insignia for one of the Black Brigades, XVI Brigata Nera "Dante Gervasini" of Varese, with the roman numeral XVI on the pommel and scabbard.
The knife is absolutely of the period and handmade. The 9⅞” blade shows heavy usage and sharpening. The hilt is in good shape with the Black Brigade badge of a skull with a dagger in its mouth attached to the side. The pommel is carved on one side XVI, and COMO on the other.
The included scabbard has XVI with the same skull insignia carved directly into the leather. This is a great personal touch of the GI who made and used this knife, likely getting the insignia from a soldier he killed or found dead.
A really phenomenal knife, ready for further research and display.
