  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic lot of three German made Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force occupation patches, two of which have rockers reading BERLIN DISTRICT. They were manufactured during the occupation of Germany just after World War Two or early in the subsequent years after the war. These types of unique patches would have been used on the shoulders of the uniforms worn.

    They include:

    - Embroidered bullion SHAEF patch with BERLIN DISTRICT rocker with bullion lettering. Exquisite and outstanding German-made example, uniform-removed. 2 ¾ x 3 ½”.
    - Fabric embroidered SHAEF patch, no rocker. Uniform-removed. 2 ¼ x 3 ¼”.
    - Fabric embroidered SHAEF patch with BERLIN DISTRICT ROCKER, uniform-removed. 2 ½ x 3 ⅞”.

SHAEF refers to the Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force, the combined headquarters directed by General Dwight D. Eisenhower during the Allied campaign in northwest Europe. Its shield design, flaming sword, and rainbow became one of the most recognizable Allied headquarters insignia of the war.

U.S. Headquarters, Berlin District was established in 1945 to administer American military forces and installations in the U.S. sector of Berlin during the early occupation. The headquarters remained active after SHAEF itself was formally discontinued on July 14th, 1945.

The grouping is especially appealing because it shows two different levels of construction within the same general occupation insignia family: a high-quality bullion Berlin District example together with more conventional embroidered patches. This makes the lot useful not only as a display group but also as a comparison set for German-made Allied occupation insignia.

This is a strong patch grouping from the immediate transition between WWII and the American occupation of Berlin. It would be an excellent addition to a collection focused on SHAEF, U.S. occupation forces in Germany, the Berlin District, or theater-made Allied insignia.
