Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a near mint condition, WWII manufactured BD-57-A switchboard by Cook Electric Company of Chicago, Illinois. Overall the switchboard measures 24 x 8 x 10" when fully closed.
The data plate on the top reads:
SIGNAL CORPS U.S. ARMY
SWITCHBOARD BD-57-A
DESIGNED AT SIGNAL CORPS LABORATORIES
FORTH MONMOUTH NEW JERSEY
SERIAL NO. 125 ORDER NO. 3010-PHILA-42
MADE BY
COOK ELECTRIC COMPANY
CHICAGO ILLINOIS
The order number indicates the year of manufacture as 1942. The front of the switchboard has a large board that can be taken off by pulling the metal tabs, revealing a large switchboard diagram on the back. We have no way to test its functionality, but it appears in great condition for its age. In our research we believe it to be a Morse Code trainer. This was one of the components for the code practice equipment EE-81, a classroom Morse code practice set for training up to 20 operators under an instructor.
This is an excellent example that comes ready to display!
We have not tested the functionality of the switchboard, but we do not see why it could not be restored to working order.
