Original Item. Only One Available. Developed during the late 1930's, the M3 Anti Tank Gun was essentially a copy of the German PAK 36, with minor modifications. Unfortunately, by 1942 that caliber was obsolete for use against modern armor in Europe. Still, it served through the entire war and proved very useful in the Pacific theater. A total of about 78 million rounds of ammunition were produced, of that, roughly 70% were Armor Piercing, 21% High Explosive, and 9% Canister. For the collector, relative rarity of these rounds aligns with those numbers, with the M2 canister being extremely difficult to find.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
This is a scarce example of one of the few canister rounds manufactured. These were meant for close quarter use against massed infantry. The "projectile" is filled with 122 3/8" (.38cal) steel balls and bursts open as soon as it leaves the muzzle. The effect is that of a large shotgun, with an effective range of 250 yards.
This example is in fantastic condition with the canister removable from the casing, and is marked LOT ATP 1 5 on the top, with several small markings on the side. The bottom of the casing reads:
37MM M16
LOT 1-1300-11
S.M.C.-1941
This dates the round to 1941. This is an extremely scarce round, and measures roughly 14½” tall. A fantastic example, the first we have ever offered, ready for further research and display.
