Original Items. Only One Lot of Six Available. This is a lovely lot of six U.S. WWII posters from the U.S. Army’s “Camouflage Blinds the Enemy” series, which encouraged soldiers to spend time on their camouflage tactics for use in the field. All three posters measure roughly 13½ x 20”, and all are in great overall condition. These would be great to fill a wall for display in your collection.
The first poster depicts two soldiers in the dark, with one man lighting a cigarette with a match. Lit matches are visible from 3000 feet, with the caption OBSERVE BLACKOUT DISCIPLINE. The poster has fold marks but no further damage.
The second poster depicts a German bomber over a camouflage net that was not properly garnished, so they were able to spot them and drop bombs. Camouflage nets should be entirely garnished so that they appear as brush. The poster reads NETS MUST BE PROPERLY GARNISHED TO GIVE CONCEALMENT. The poster is in great shape with fold marks.
The third poster shows an American soldier falling in battle from standing up while his friend remains prone, with a target behind his body. The caption reads HUG THE GROUND AND LIVE LONGER. The poster is in great shape with fold marks.
The fourth poster shows a soldier entirely covered in brush and under foliage with the caption For surprise attack… BLEND WITH YOUR BACKGROUND. The poster has some wear to the sides and fold marks, with some small tears along the bottom.
The fifth poster depicts a German soldier walking forward with a blindfold around his eyes, with the caption CAMOUFLAGE BLINDS THE ENEMY. If he can’t see you, he can’t hit you. This example has some fold damage and light tearing along the top and side edges.
The sixth and final poster depicts two soldiers under cover, one in a foxhole in the open, and the other under a bush and with proper camouflaging. The caption reads FOX HOLES CAN BE BULL’S-EYES. Cover spoil with sod. This one has some minor color loss and edge tearing, but nothing serious.
