Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent condition vintage World War Two US propaganda poster that reads: They've got more important places to go than you! Save Rubber, Check Your Tires Now. Published by the Division of Information for The Office For Emergency Management to encourage Americans to conserve resources, featuring a fantastic period illustration by Walter Richards. This is a rare version in the large size format of 28.5” x 40”. Because it features a WWII Jeep, original examples rarely come to the market. Has original fold lines and retains color vibrancy well. Nicely marked on the bottom edge:
OWI Poster- No. 76, Additional copies may be obtained upon request from the Division of Public Inquiries, Office of War Information, Washington D.C., U.S. Government Printing Office: 1942-O-498482
The Willys MB and the Ford GPW, both formally called the U.S. Army Truck, 1⁄4-ton, 4×4, Command Reconnaissance, commonly known as a Jeep, and sometimes referred to as G503, were highly successful off-road capable, light, military utility vehicles, built in large numbers to a standardized design, from 1941 to 1945, for the Allied forces in World War II.
This is a fantastic poster with some noted flaws including small tears to the top and bottom of the poster with folds visible. Other than that, it’s a great piece that would do well with proper framing, ready for further research and display.
