  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a rare example of a leaflet dropped by U.S. forces onto Japanese Industrial districts and facilities urging them to move out of the industrial areas as the bombing in those regions was to become heavily saturated in the coming days. The leaftlet comes with a letter sent home by Roy W. Sommerfild, HQ 73rd Bomb Wing, and is dated August 9th, 1945, the final day of the bombing on Nagasaki.

The leaflet comes in a plastic sleeve with its direct translation printed on the back which also shows the back of the leaflet, depicting an endless number of American planes bombing Japanese industrial facilities. The leaflet measures roughly 5½ x 8½”.

The letter discusses Russia’s declaration of war on Japan and how it’s great news for the allies. At this point, the end of the war was less than a month away. The letter is written from Saipan of the Northern Mariana Islands. The letter comes with its original envelope which is what provides the name of the soldier, as well as his serial number, 37666922. This is a really stellar ephemera grouping ready for further research and display.
