Item Description
Original Item: One of a Kind. Here we have a lovely ceramic desk ornament pen holder, which features an army officer holding his sidearm in the correct firing position on the top. These were often given to the commanding officers by members of a Company or Platoon as a memento of their service during the war, and to show their appreciation for solid leadership. This example has a named dedication on the mechanical date display by PARK SHERMAN CO., which is fully functional:
CAPTAIN. R.E. DAVID
FROM
Co. "A" 139th TANK BN.
There is also a small brass plaque below with crossed sabers and the messages AND OLD and "HOW", which we assume are from some inside joke amongst the company. THere are pen holders on either side, which look to have the original pens, which almost certainly have dried up over the years. The ceramic base measures 9 1/2"W x 4 1/2"D, and overall it is just over 8 inches in overall height.
We have attempted to do some research on Capt. R.E. David and the unit, but have not been able to find much, and leave this as an excellent research opportunity. A great piece of WWII memorabilia!
