Original U.S. WWII Paratrooper’s Drop Rope Bundle Unissued in Original Packaging with Label by Atlanta Braid Company - Second Pattern

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a stellar example of a WWII American paratrooper’s drop rope unissued in its original packaging with the original label. This is the first complete example we have been able to offer, and there is very little reference to them. There are two models of these, this being the later second model that was meant to be less slippery. These can be discerned by the yellow tape around both ends.

Page 56 of AMERICA'S FINEST by Gary Howard. There are photos of both the first and second patterns of rope. The first pattern was made of unbleached plaited cotton and was 3/8" in diameter and 33 feet long. It was discovered that this rope was too slippery, so the second pattern was developed. It was 5/8" in diameter and also 33 feet long. It was of a looser weave to provide a better grip.

The label on the top reads:

ROPE: PARACHUTIST
ATLANTA BRAID COMPANY
SEPTEMBER 25, 1944
CONTRACT W-09-038-QM-1452
SPECIFICATION 6-309 (Modified)
STOCK NO. 74-H-275
ATLANTA ARMY SERVICE FORCES DEPOT
33 FEET

The drop rope is in phenomenal untouched condition, and we haven’t taken it out of the package. Both pieces of tape are certainly still on the ends. The rope bundle in its packaging measures roughly 5½ x 6½ x 3½”. There is some tearing in the packaging, but we guarantee that you won’t find another like this.

This is an extremely rare piece of WWII Paratrooper field gear, ready for further research and display in your collection.
