Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful U.S. WWII "Theater Made" fighting knife, 14 1/8 inches in length, with an 8 1/2 inch wavy "Kris Style" blade. These knives were made by the armorers and engineers, usually in the Pacific theater. The large capital ships needed to have skilled fabricators on board to make repairs and modifications to weapons and gear. Usually the blades were made from existing weapons or from steel components, and the hilts were cast from metals such as aluminum or zinc.
The knife has a blade that looks to be heavily inspired by the Kris daggers used throughout the South Pacific area near what is today Indonesia. It is much heavier than those blades, but the wavy design is unmistakable. It is then fitted with a steel crossguard, and a stacked leather grip much like that on the famous KA-BAR knives. The pommel is heavy cast brass, and looks to have been cast directly onto the tang of the knife. A very sturdy and impressive weapon!
The knife comes with a standard leather scabbard with a belt loop in the back. It is made in the standard way, with two pieces of leather sewn together with leather lacing, with a braided leg tie down at the bottom. However, it has been stamped on the front with the locations where the owner visited during their service, making it a great display piece! It also has what we believe to be their operating number in the Navy, as well as the ships they served aboard. The entire front side scabbard is covered!
