Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is an interesting and unique piece of aviation history, one that would make for an excellent desktop paperweight! This is an Aircraft Bearing Race, recovered from P51 Mustang, Aircraft No 44.15168. This P51 was lost in a flying accident on June 30, 1945, crashing in Wetherfield Essex, England. It had a total of 462 flying hours on the airframe.

History of Mustang P51D No 44.15168: The Mustang was a D15 variant built by North American Aircraft, it was powered by a Packard Merlin V1650-7 engine, which gave it a top speed of 437 mph. It was shipped to England in 1944 and in June 1945 was serving with the 8th Air Force in the 66th Fighter Wing, 339th Fighter Group, 505th Fighter Squadron.

This unit was based at Fowlmere in Cambridge and flew with silver tails on their aircraft, they would have flown over Germany on fighter protection to the B17 Flying Fortress formations which were involved with daylight bombing operations, they also would be strafing targets of opportunity on the ground.

The bearing is cleaned of any grease and was polished. It is in lovely condition but there are cracks present.
