Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an extremely scarce piece of technology developed for use by the OSS during World War II, the Anti-Disturbance or “Black Box” mine. The OSS (Office of Strategic Services) was formed by the US Government during World War II, as an intelligence agency that was tasked with performing and coordinating espionage activities behind enemy lines. The agency was the predecessor of today’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The OSS not only coordinated and assisted local resistance fighters in many theaters of WWII, but also provided weapons from time to time. Some of the more commonly known OSS weapons are the single shot “Liberator” .45 ACP pistol and the “Sterile Drop Knife”.

This is a fantastic NOS (New Old Stock) example of the Black Box mine with all pieces appearing to be retained. The testing bulb is still intact held by a spring on the interior alongside two pieces of mounting hardware in their original wrapping paper.
The mine is opened by unscrewing the cap at the end and pulling from the opposite end, it does take a little while to unscrew but still works. The interior shows that the mine has never been used, with a spot for a battery that is not present. The mine when screwed back together measures 8 ¾ x 4 x 2”. The pull ring is retained and in good shape.
