Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent original U.S. WWII Army Ordnance Department wristwatch manufactured by ELGIN and retaining its original khaki web wristband. It features a cream-colored military dial, luminous Arabic numerals and hands, an outer minute track, a subsidiary seconds register at six o’clock, and a 17-jewel manual-winding movement. The watch has been professionally cleaned and oiled and is currently running correctly.
The cream-colored dial is clearly marked ELGIN and displays honest age, including scattered spotting, discoloration, and surface wear. Aged luminous material remains visible within the hour and minute hands and Arabic numerals. Only the hour and minute hands retain any luminosity; the numerals no longer glow. The hands and winding crown are original and remain in nice condition.
The silver-colored metal case has a stainless-steel screw back bearing the following markings:
ORD.DEPT.
U.S.A.
OC-240992
The Ordnance Department serial number is OC-240992. Based on similar examples we have previously examined, this number appears consistent with manufacture around 1943-1944, although the exact production date has not been confirmed.
During WWII, ELGIN supplied watches to several branches of the United States Armed Forces, including the U.S. Army. In 1940, the Ordnance Department published requirements covering several categories of military timepieces, including pocket watches, wristwatches, and stopwatches.
The watch remains in very good service-used condition. The case shows scattered scratches, small dents, finish loss, and wear around the bezel and lugs. The cream-colored dial exhibits noticeable age spotting and discoloration, while the original khaki web wristband shows expected soiling, fading, and wear. The crystal is a modern plastic replacement manufactured to the original specifications.
This is a particularly appealing U.S. WWII service wristwatch retaining its ELGIN-marked military dial, original hands and crown, Ordnance Department-marked case back, and original web wristband. It has been fully cleaned, oiled, and tested and is currently running correctly. The replacement crystal, case wear, aged dial, and approximate production date are the principal descriptive considerations.
There is no warranty for this watch, and returns due to the watch becoming nonfunctional will not be accepted. All watches are wound, tested, and recorded on video before shipment. We are not in the watch repair business. ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
