Original U.S. WWII Operational Security “Careless Talk” Propaganda Poster - 28” x 40”

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. During World War Two, the British and US governments had countless posters printed in order to assist with the war effort. Many were simple propaganda, designed to engender popular support for the War.

One branch of this propaganda has been christened “careless talk”, and focused on discouraging the discussion of sensitive information about the war effort. Creative posters were made to depict the ways in which information might be leaked. It was also intended to prevent the spread of rumors which might drain morale.

This 28.5" x 40" poster is in excellent condition. "LESS DANGEROUS - THAN CARELESS TALK" features an illustration of a coiled, green-eyed rattlesnake with blood dripping from its mouth and fangs, ready to strike. Blood is also pooled on the floor next to the snake. Below it reads "Don't discuss troop movements ship sailings war equipment". "Distributed for the issuing Agencies by OWI" and "U.S. Government Printing Office: 1944-O-603532."
