Original U.S. WWII Operation Tidal Wave Ploesti Raid B-24 Bomber Metal Fragment Recovered in 1991 on Display Plaque - 9 x 12”

Original Item. Only One Available. Operation Tidal Wave was an air attack by bombers of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) based in Libya on nine oil refineries around Ploiești, Romania, on 1 August 1943, during World War II. It was a strategic bombing mission and part of the "oil campaign" to deny petroleum-based fuel to the Axis powers. The mission resulted in "no curtailment of overall product output".
This is a very interesting plaque with an original metal fragment taken from a B-24 Bomber that were shot down over Ploesti during the raid on August 1st, 1943. The piece itself measures roughly 1 ⅛ x 3 ¾”. There were 50 of these plaques made with the material, and this one is numbered 7/50. The bottom reads:
Artist/explorer Bryan Moon returned to Ploesti in 1990 and again in 1991.
He retrieved sections from “Tidal Wave” B-24’s which were shot down
Over Ploesti on August 1st, 1943.
This section is from one of those B-24s.
