Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Lieutenant Lee Matthews ASN 0-1304758 from 480 Audubon Avenue New York, NY was in command of the 2nd platoon, I Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) and was awarded the Silver Star of Conspicuous Gallantry in Action for his actions on June 9th-11th in the attack on AGY France just Southeast of Omaha Beach. In fact, we uncovered a document from the Infantry School at Fort Benning for the Advance Infantry Officer's Course that outlines the actions on I company during this battle. - Original Class A Uniform Jacket in excellent condition which is named on an interior label to LEE MATTHEWS and dated 11/17/42. Features stitched on medal ribbons that include: Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct, European-African Middle East Campaign with 5 battle stars and an Arrowhead (invasion). The jacket also features a French Fourragere (2 citations) shoulder cord and a bullion embroidered Combat Infantryman Badge, 1st Infantry Division patch on left shoulder. The epaulets have Sterling Silver Lieutenant bars and Enamel 26th Infantry Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignias. The lapel bears 26th Infantry Regiment lapel pins, left sleeve has 4 bullion service bars for 24+ months of overseas service. The original tailor label is by Smith-Gray of New York which matches the officers peaked cap.
