Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding unique machinist-made Naval gun made during the World War II period. It is a true work of art and is still oiled in the right places so that the moving parts still function. The piece is mounted on a wooden base with a working set of swivels to spin the entire piece and to move the barrel vertically. The breech block opens and we were told this is able to fire a .38 S&W blank round. We have not tested this, however.
The gun doesn’t appear to match any particular model of naval gun exactly, and likely was made with inspirations from different models the machinist had studied. It has similarities to the U.S. 5-inch/25-caliber gun and the Japanese 20 cm/12 short naval gun.

The piece has a locking bar for the breech and a large bar that opens the block when pushed forward. Everything appears functional but as this is a completely one-of-a-kind piece, we cannot say for certain. The set still retains its lovely stainless steel finish.
The base measures roughly 7 ⅛” in diameter, and the height to the top of the front shield is 6 ¼”. When the barrel is fully extended up, it measures 10” high. The only markings appear to be stamps 1 and 2 on the bottom piece of the gun itself, and then 1 and 2 on the two hooks that lock the breech in place.
An outstanding display piece still in great functional shape with some staining and storage wear. Ready for further research and display!
