Original U.S. WWII Navy FSSC-88-W-800 Wrist Watch by Waltham dated 1942 - Fully Functional
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original rare early war issue U.S. Navy Officer issue screw back FSSC-88-W-800 wrist watch, made by Waltham Watch Co.. While we have had many of the Army and USAAF issue watches, this is only the second Navy watch that we have had.
It is a stainless steel screw back Waltham Model 10616 16-Jewel 6/0 size wrist watch with a stainless steel case. This model is similar to the Army Model 10609. This wonderful example has been fully cleaned, tested and runs perfectly. It features a hand-winding and hacking movement, which allowed the movement to be stopped for "watch synchronization". It has a black face with radium luminous hands for night use. The name WALTHAM can be seen on the face in reflection, as it is in black for some reason. Features what appears to be the original crystal, which is still mostly clear in color, with some surface scratches. The band is a correct high quality OD Green web reproduction.
During WWII, Waltham supplied watches for the US Army, Navy, and Marine Corps [the Air Force was the Army Air Force]. In 1940, the Ordnance Department published the requirements for military watches. The list includes pocket, wrist, and stop watches.
Marking on the stainless steel back case reads:

Watch Shape: Round
Movement Serial Number: 31469 261
Movement Date: '42
Case Material: Plated Brass
