  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting WWII Soldier’s scrapbook / photo album with tons of great shots from his and his brothers’ service overseas. The album itself is in fair condition with several pages broken away and the spine now very fragile. Many of the photos are also detached, but there are some outstanding shots and interesting artifacts, including an original captured German Bevo SS sleeve eagle, several shots of nose art, and some outstanding photos of famous actors and actresses of the era, including Gary Cooper, Jack Benny, Carole Landis, and Una Merkel. There is also a signed photograph of Helen Forrest! There are roughly 82 photographs total with tons of other pieces including V Mail, holiday cards, postcards, newspaper clippings, and captured paper money. There are photos and material from soldiers in the Army, Navy, and Marines.

There is a 22nd Coastal Artillery badge attached to one page, the unit served in by Sam, a friend or relative of the album’s owner. The page opposite of this has two V Mail letters written by Angelo Scichilone, who appears to be the primary owner of this photo album. Angelo is who captured the Bevo SS Sleeve eagle which is a bit creased from folding and being pressed, but it is a great capture piece.

There are also some V-Mail letters from Joseph Scichilone, likely Angelo’s brother. There are newspaper articles about family members or close friends who were wounded or killed in action, including Charles Camerson, Louis Frank Verchek, Robert Stadelmaier, and Jack Luttrell.

There are some photos from Alaska, photos of a Japanese marine and Japanese girls, a Philippine officer, captured Japanese and Filipino money, captured German money, stamps, and more. Photos of Japanese planes, seaplanes, sights, fields, and civilians. One page has nothing but captured money.

The album cover has an embossed Viking Ship, and as mentioned the covers and spine are fragile and partially detached. The pieces holding the album together are very delicate, so handle the album with care. The album measures 9 ½ x 12 ¾”. The string that keeps the album together is tied together around a small visor cap Federal eagle button, a nice detail.

The celebrity photos appear to mostly be in front of a bomber with nose art, “BUCK BENNY RIDES AGAIN”, a reference to the 1940 film of the same name starring Jack Benny. The photo of Jack Benny is of him in front of this bomber, a really great photo! Carol Landis is standing next to him with two soldiers, likely Angelo or Joseph.

This is an excellent WWII photo album with some great material, ready for display.
