  • Original Items: Only One Lot of 2 Available. A machete is a broad blade used either as an agricultural implement similar to an axe, or in combat like a long-bladed knife. The blade is typically 30 to 45 centimeters (12 to 18 in) long and usually under 3 millimeters (1⁄8 in) thick. In the Spanish language, the word is possibly a diminutive form of the word macho, which was used to refer to sledgehammers. Alternatively, its origin may be machaera, the name given by the Romans to the falcata. It is the origin of the English language equivalent term matchet, though it is less commonly used. In much of the English-speaking Caribbean, such as Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, and Grenada and in Trinidad and Tobago, the term cutlass is used for these agricultural tools.

    The Machetes In This Lot:
-1944 Dated Navy Legitimus Collins & Co Machete with U.S.N. Navy Mk. 1 Marked Scabbard: Made by Collins & Co. of Hartford, Conn, this is a LEGITIMUS model long jungle machete. The Machete has an impressive overall length of 31 ¼ inches, with a straight 26 inch Bush/Collins machete shape blade. The blade is about 2 ⅛ inches wide at the thickest point. The blade is heavily oxidized from age but the maker’s mark is still present. Good example overall.

-1944 Dated Army 23” True Temper (American Fork & Hoe) Machete With Boyt Scabbard: Most of the early tools associated with the name TRUE TEMPER can be described as hand tools with wood handles. The blade on this example is heavily oxidized, and the rivets are just as oxidized, with a small red paint stripe on the hilt. The scabbard is in great shape and reads U.S. BOYT -44-. The blade measures roughly 18” long with an overall length of 23”.
