  • Original Grouping. One-of-a-Kind. This is a fantastic WWII Navy grouping of Seaman 2nd Class Nicholas William Candela, who served aboard LSM #325 during World War II. The grouping includes a great deal of Ephemera as well as his Mk. I Fighting Knife, Aircraft Identification cards, and more.


    The group includes:
    -USN MK.1 Fighting knife in original sheath. Tape-wrapped grip. On the reverse he engraved NICK (HEART WITH ARROW) ELEANORE NC + ED.
    -Candela’s U.S. Navy Donald Duck style flat cap reading U.S. Navy.
    -Four packs of Aircraft & ship Self-Instruction Recognition Cards Restricted. Includes Japanese, British, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Army. All in great shape.
    -Two signal flags, both are half red & half yellow. 14 x 15”.
    -Dozens of photos from his service including Navy life, ships, officers, being on port, drinking, etc. Some phenomenal material.
    -Two pairs of Polaroid All-Purpose goggles in their original bags.
    -Framed photo of USS LSM-19,21,22. 9½ X 11½”.
    -Candela’s leg gaiters.
     -Original Roster of his ship, LSM #325. He is 3rd on the list.

    LSM #325 was laid down, 29 May 1944, at Pullman Standard Car Manufacturing Company, Chicago, IL. It launched on 25 August 1944. Commissioned USS LSM-325, 30 September 1944, LTjg. Robert H. McCanne USNR in command. During World War II USS LSM-325 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater: LSM Flotilla Six, CDR. A. R. Quinn USN; LSM Group Eighteen, LCDR. J. M. Fabre, USNR; LSM Division Thirty-Six and participated in the Okinawa Gunto Operation from 1 to 26 April 1945. Following World War II USS LSM-325 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East from 19 September to 2 October 1945.
