Original U.S. WWII Named USMC or Navy Modified KA-BAR Knife with Sheath & Gorgeous Knotted Thongs - Bernie Talbott

Item Description

Original Item: One-Of-A-Kind. This is a very interesting WWII US Marine Corps or Navy "KA-BAR" Fighting Knife, personally modified by a Marine or Sailor. The knife grip has been replaced by a colorful stacked transparent grip, with a brass pointed pommel. The sheath has some absolutely gorgeous braided leather thongs, three in total. The back of the sheath is inscribed by BERNIE TALBOTT, likely the man who carried this.

This was one of the later Ka-Bar knives, with the markings on the crossguard, and since it’s been replaced, we cannot say whether this was a Marine or Navy Ka-Bar. There is some heavy verdigris to the brass crossguard.

The leather sheath is the standard type used with the Ka-Bar, and is in worn condition. These were originally issued in natural leather, and this has faded to a lovely walnut. The stitching, rivets and securing strap is present without any extensive damage, but there is cracking and crazing in the leather. The securing strap’s snap has broken through the leather, so it no longer works. The sheath has three gorgeous leather thongs which have been braided, giving the sheath a great look.

An excellent example of a field-modified "KA-BAR" knife, which looks to have seen a long service life! No collection is complete without one! Ready to display!
