  • Original Item: One Of A Kind: This is a fantastic example of a custom, one-off, WWII "Theater Made" Fighting Knife, named to an Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. These knives were made by the armorers and engineers, usually in the Pacific theater. The large capital ships needed to have skilled fabricators on board to make repairs and modifications to weapons and gear.

The Knife was made utilizing the grip and skull crusher pommel cap from a WWI L.F.&C M-1918 Knuckle Knife, with a custom made thick spear point blade. This was often done since the original blade of the M-1918 was somewhat useless as a tool. It was a phenomenal fighting weapon, but otherwise a poor choice for any utilitarian means. During fabrication, the sides of the grip were ground down, and marked with U.S. MARINES on one side, and CAPT. D. R. WALKER on the other side, making this a fantastic item for further research!

The pommel portion of the knife looks to have been brazed directly in, after which a new brass "skull crusher" was made. There are even some signs of brazing around the crossguard, definitely a secure fit! The blade shows signs of expected tarnishing and light corrosion, as expected, while the L.F.&C. Knuckle Duster grip exhibits a beautiful rich mellow patina. The blade and grip do not wobble, and are very tight.

The custom leather scabbard is a very interesting design, using a wooden spacer inside to space the leather belt hook strap around the wide crossguard. It has a canvas retaining strap featuring a lift-the-dot snap, and also has a very nice brass belt clip at the top. Condition is very good, with the leather a bit dry due to age.

A beautiful example to add to a collection of WWII Fighting Knives. This is one of the finest examples of a converted knife like this we have ever seen! It is in very honest condition, showing signs of being nearly untouched since WWII.
