Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the tremendous personalized fighting knife of George Kolb, who served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He inscribed the sheath of the knife with Dutch Harbor / Adak AK ALASKA, indicating that he served at Dutch Harbor on Amaknak Island in Unalaska, Alaska. It was the location of the Battle of Dutch Harbor in June, 1942 when the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked it just seven months after the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The back of the sheath is marked with his information, George Kolb / 37601956. A great research project!
The knife’s hilt has been entirely replaced with a stacked multi-color transparent grip and what is likely an aluminum pommel. The finish on the blade is good with good markings, but there is some heavy wear and cleaned oxidation. It is however still quite sharp. The pommel is still tight to the hilt.
The sheath is in good shape, with a lovely light brown color. All stitching and rivets are intact, though the leather has crazing around some rivets and on the securing strap. This was definitely a knife and scabbard that saw use.
A very nice personalized example, ready to display!
