Original U.S. WWII Named Pearl Harbor Stationed US Naval Pilot Lt. Commander Hugh McKibbin Uniform Jacket Grouping - Dated November 1941

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Grouping Available. This is a wonderful pair of items attributed to a US Navy pilot who was stationed at Pearl Harbor during WWII. The grouping consists of a beautiful Dress White and Dress Blue jacket, both named to Lieutenant Commander Hugh Robert McKibbin Sr.

Captain McKibbin, a 1933 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, was stationed in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, bringing this country into World War II. At the time of the attack, he was on a mail run to California.

He went on to spend World War II and most of his later career largely in the Far East. During the war, his flying missions included transporting dignitaries and dropping supplies to American forces behind enemy lines. Captain McKibbin, a native of Beaverton, Michigan, attended flight school at Pensacola, Florida. Before the war, he also had served aboard the battleship Oklahoma as a line officer.

During the Korean War, Captain McKibbin commanded a supply ship. His career included service with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and helping to establish what became the Naval Postgraduate School.

He died on April 11, 1999 in Arlington Hospital of cancer. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors next to his son, Hugh Robert McKibbin, Jr., First Lieutenant, United States Army, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968.

Both uniforms are in wonderful condition, but as expected with the Navy Dress Whites, there is a significant amount of staining and age toning present, but does not take away from the beautiful of this jacket. The dress whites are dated November 1941 while the Blues are 1944. Both uniforms were purchased and tailored at Ship’s Service Stores Tailor Shop at Pearl Harbor. Both jackets retain all of their original buttons and devices.

A wonderful grouping of items attributed to a US Navy Aviator stationed at Pearl Harbor who logged many flight hours during WWII! Comes more than ready for further research and display.
