Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a great WWII Custom made knife by G. Grunewald of Athens, W.S. Known for his tough made and heavy construction steel knives. This one comes with beautiful horn handles held with brass pins, though there is cracking on one side. The back of the sheath is named to the soldier who carried it.
The knife sports a 7 ¼” fixed blade which shows heavy sharpening. It is stamped on the ricasso:
G. GRUNEWALD
ATHENS, W’S
The overall length is 12 ¼”. The horn grips are cracked on one side.
The original leather sheath is custom-made with great patterned tooling along the edges. There is a leg tie down retained as well. The back of the sheath is carved with crossed swords at the top over 1944, next to:
KENNETH A. CORMACK
WAUSAU WISCONSIN
We couldn’t identify Cormack, making for a good research project.
A great custom-made knife, ready for display.
