Original U.S. WWII Named CBI Blood Chit Grouping For B-29 Tail Gunner With 35 Missions With The 40th Bomb Squadron, 6th Bomb Group, Staff Sergeant Joseph J. Majeski Jr - 6 Items

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Grouping of 6 Available. This is an excellent condition silk blood chit from World War Two. It is a printed 48 Star American Flag and a message printed in 5 languages, which include BURMESE, CHINESE, KAREN, W.SHAN, and E.SHAN & N THAI. The last three are less well known languages, from smaller groups on the SouthEast Asian Peninsula, and are found in several different countries farther inland. In the center of the flag is a photo of S/Sgt Majeski, which was applied via double sided tape. If you would wish to remove the photo, it can be done so carefully by using a regular household hair dryer on low heat to help mitigate the risk of color loss or damage.

This chit measures approximately 11” x 9 ¼”. This would have been stitched to the back or inside lining of a U.S. Aviator flight jacket. Examples such as these were also part of the standard contents of a China Burma India Survival set.

Other items include S/Sgt Majeski’s chevrons (2), Pilot and Crew Member Physical Record Card, Soldier’s Individual Pay Record and a U.S. Army Air Forces shoulder sleeve insignia. All items are in solid condition. We also found a period photo online of Majeski with members of the crew he was in beneath the front of a bomber (not included).

Joseph was born to Joseph J. Sr and Helen Majeski. Mr. Majeski served his country proudly in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He flew over 35 missions over Japan in a B-29 as a tail gunner in the 40th Squadron, 6th Bomb Group. Upon his discharge he left the Air Corp with the rank of staff sergeant and received the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal. Mr. Majeski was an accomplished musician. He belonged to the Union Musician in Philadelphia and could play the accordion, piano, and keyboard. He also was a Philadelphia police officer for 20 years. Upon his retirement from the force, he became the chief investigator in the security department for Strawbridge and Clothier stores.

A lovely grouping ready for further research and display.
