Original U.S. WWII MP Military Police M1 Helmet Liner by Firestone

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine World War Two issue M1 Helmet liner by Firestone in rough service-worn condition. The most notable aspect is the original period white band around the circumference and white MP painted to the front. MP stands for Military Police. MPs often were behind the front lines stationed at Headquarters and routinely didn't wear the heavy steel exterior shells as they were typically on their feet for various duties including guard duty at the guardhouse or stockade.

The liner is the correct high pressure WWII issue and stamped with the Firestone Manufacturing Company F logo stamped in the crown. The liner is fitted with a frontal eyelet, and features OD#3 (aka Khaki) web HBT suspension fitted by blacked A-Washers. The liner shell is heavily bent and warped, with two large cracks and several smaller cracks along the edges. The original chinstrap is retained but is broken off on one end. The sweatband is a later issued example with dark Green canvas.

A true US WWII M-1 helmet liner can usually be identified through the frontal eyelet hole. Other correct WW2 features include cotton herringbone twill (HBT) cloth suspension. This HBT suspension is held tightly within the M-1 helmet liner by rivets and a series of triangular "A" washers. The three upper suspension bands are joined together with a shoestring. This way the wearer could adjust the fit. There are some faint markings

Quality WWII M1 helmet liners have become increasingly difficult to find in recent years, especially genuine WW2 issue Military Police liners. Almost certainly to appreciate in value year after year.
