  • Original Items: Only One Pair Available. Known as the Model 1939 American Service Shoe these low quarter boots were also called walking out boots by USGIs. These were standard issue to US troops serving in the Army and Air Force at the start of the WW2, eventually replaced by the rough-out boot. This pair in excellent wearable condition boot is made from russet brown leather with leather toe cap and a two piece stitched-in rubber sole. Worn in combat with the M1938 leggings, these boots were also popular off-duty.

The outside of one boot is marked 9C (FV). The laces are in good shape but show some fraying and staining. The rear heels are in great shape and are marked LIGHT-TREAD TRADEMARK, and the soles are marked:

    U.S. ARMY
    H.M.S.
    9    9 1/2

This denotes the sizes these soles will fit. The interior edge of each boot is stamped in yellow ink, 4067, matching the set.

The combination of the size 9C marking, matching 4067 interior stamps, original russet leather, LIGHT-TREAD heels, U.S. ARMY / H.M.S. soles, leather toe caps, and excellent overall condition makes this a particularly strong surviving pair of WWII American service shoes and a useful addition to a complete early-war uniform display.
