Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. Women also served in the US Marine Corps during WW2, as mechanics, clerical staff, and in other capacities to free men for combat. They were universally respected by their male counterparts, and were issued winter forest green wool visor caps specifically designed to compliment a woman's coiffure.
This is a lovely green Female Marine’s hobby hat worn by Corporal Marjorie Jeanne Klee, who enlisted in April 1944. She served at Arlington, Virginia, then with the Women’s Reserve Battalion, and later with the Aviation Women’s Reserve Squadron #2 in Santa Barbara, California. Worthy of further research!
The front of the hat has a lovely gilt EGA cap device with a great white rope chinstrap held in by Gilt USMC buttons. The interior lining has a maker’s mark for KNOX of New York, and there is a size tag, 22½. There is an attached tag with Klee’s name.
