Original Item. Only One Available. This is a tremendous map of the Island of Saipan printed on or around June 21st, 1944 during World War II. The map was reproduced during the war from captured Japanese maps depicting the island as well as Japanese fortifications across the island. The map is noted as using an arbitrary grid system.
The map measures 18 x 20” and is in fair condition overall with some damage. There are small tears along the edges of the map, and there are folding creases across. There is also some staining in spots on the map. The map reads in the bottom right:
SAIPAN ISLAND
(Reproduced from captured Japanese Maps)
21 June 44
Note: Arbitrary Grid System used.
Sheet No. 1 of 2 sheets
This notes that the map was a two-sheet set, and this is only the first of the two. The 2nd sheet would have shown the lower portion of the island. This example would look best in a frame.
An extremely scarce example, we can’t find any others like it. Comes ready for framing and display.
