Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition genuine WWII U.S. Army M4 Carbine bayonet fighting knife, with an original M8A1 scabbard. Nicely marked U.S. M4 / UTICA on the blade side of hand guard for the Utica Cutlery Co., next to the U.S. Ordnance "Flaming Bomb". The blade is in excellent condition, showing barely any use, and no sharpening after arsenal. The crossguard, handle, and pommel are all tight to the blade.
The bayonet still has the original WWII issue leather washer grip, with a bit of discoloration towards the pommel. These have not been changed out, and the leather in the grip shows some wear and light cracking. The pommel is held on by the correct "starburst" peened over tang, which with the flaming bomb proves this is definitely a WWII example, and not a later reissue. There is a bit of rust on the pommel, which has made one side of the bayonet lock difficult to move.
This lovely knife comes with an OD green scabbard marked U.S. M8A1 / P W H, also in offered in very good condition. This design features a thermoplastic impregnated duck canvas body, metal throat, and canvas frog and securing strap with a steel pistol belt hook. This was manufactured by the Pennsylvania Working Home for the Blind, one of many organizations set up after WWII and Korea to provide work to blinded veterans. The condition is very good, with wear to the canvas frog at the top. There is also a bit of cracking on the body just below the throat.
