Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This bomb is totally inert and deactivated following guidelines provided by the ATF. This example is offered in excellent condition with original markings and paint. It cannot be converted to an explosive device and is not available for export.
This is a very nice WWII Issue M38A2 Inert Practice bomb, intended to be a dummy replacement for the AN-M30 100 lb. bomb and other similar aerial bombs used during WWII. They were used for training, and were much safer for use during exercises. At about 14 lbs. in weight, they were also far lighter than the real thing.
The bomb still has the original blue paint job, the standard color for U.S. inert ordnance during the WWII Period and later. It also still has the original stenciled markings fully visible:
PRACTICE
BOMB
100 LB. M38A2
DEC. 44
LOT AM-31
The paint is a bit worn and places, and this practice bomb looks to have been on display somewhere for a long time. We can see areas where there were stickers affixed long ago, which then were later removed. There is also a stencil on the side that reads STOP NIXON / COME TO MIAMI / AUG. 20 24. Definitely an interesting message to see on a practice bomb! Nixon was a major candidate on several occasions before bein elected, so we do not know exactly when this was added.
Overall it measures about 48 inches long and just over 8 inches wide. Condition is very good, with just a bit of wear, and some light oxidation in places where the paint has worn through. There are some dents on the top and sides.
A really great example with an interesting history, ready to add to your collection and display!
