Original U.S. WWII M38 Tanker Helmet by Rawlings with M-1944 Goggles

This is a very nice original U.S. WWII M38 Tanker Helmet by Rawlings, complete with a pair of original M-1944 protective goggles manufactured by Pioneer Scientific Corporation. The M38 became one of the most recognizable pieces of American armored crew equipment during WWII and remains closely associated with U.S. tank crews serving in both the European and Pacific theaters.

Helmet is in very nice condition, and comes complete with the rigid ear protection tabs (often missing or broken), though there is some dry rot and stiffening of the leather. The ear flaps are also complete and the liner is in good supple condition, but the chin strap is absent, broken away long ago. The tabs on the sides show breakage, but overall the helmet has survived well.
Also included are mint condition M1944 Dust Googles with a great green tint lens. These were manufactured and marked by the Pioneer Scientific Corporation. M44 Goggles were commonly issued to tank commanders. The elastic strap does show heavy staining and wear, but it is still solid and they still through the correct rear leather loops.
The combination of the Rawlings manufacture, size 6 7/8 marking, surviving rigid ear protectors, original liner, Pioneer Scientific M-1944 goggles, green-tinted lens, and correct rear-loop mounting makes this a very attractive WWII armored crew display. The missing chinstrap, damaged side tabs, leather stiffening, and stained goggle strap are the principal condition issues, but the set remains highly presentable and substantially complete.
