Original Item: Only One Available. This is a good WWII period Mark 3 U.S. fighting knife, with the guard deeply stamped with, U.S. M3 / CASE. The 6 3/4 inch spear point blade is in fair condition with heavy wear and loss of finish. The blade is still quite sharp and in fair service-worn condition with some sharpening marks. The handle and stacked leather grip are in similar condition, and moderate wear. There are no major cracks, and the leather is still soft, though due to shrinking the cross guard is loose. The bottom of the pommel faintly bears the U.S. "Flaming Bomb" proof mark.
The original scabbard is marked, U.S. M8 / B.M. CO and is in very good condition, with light overall wear. This is the earlier pattern of the scabbard, without the retaining loop, though it was later updated to have one. Interestingly, the retaining loop on this example is khaki, while the rest of the frog is OD Green, giving the canvas a great two-tone look. These feature a thermoplastic impregnated cotton fabric body, metal throat, and canvas frog and securing strap. The body still has most of the original OD Green finish. The metal finish is somewhat worn, but looks great. The scabbard was manufactured by Beckwith Mfg Co. a division of Victory Plastics. This example still retains its leather tiedown which is in great shape.
A great example of a real service-used M3 Fighting knife, with a great look and transitional scabbard. Ready to display!
